Catmon, Malabon City, Manila, Philippines: The residents of Catmon reside on a landfill that was once a lake. There community has been slated for destruction for many years but the residents have continually resisted. Here a daughter rests with her mother. Residents say that many of their children become very sick due to the conditions they live in (photo by Jack Stephens).

In August of last year me a group of four other organizers from the League of Filipino StudentsSan Francisco State University chapter went to the urban poor section of Catmon, Malabon City, Manila, Philippines to integrate with local community activists trying to save their community from demolition as well as to continue to organize their community against those trying to subvert their political and basic human rights.

I’ve finally been able to upload and caption some of the photos I took to my Flickr account.
