February 12, 2011, San Francisco: Ignite the Flame was a community event put on by San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines to raise awareness of human rights and political abuses in the Philippines. On February 12th San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines, which is part of a large progressive alliance of Filipino American and Philippine based organizations, BAYANUSA, held a Valentine’s Day fundraiser to raise funds to send some of its members (including myself) to the Philippines in order to integrate with local communities effected by state repression and beset by human rights violations.  The proceeds of the event will go to fund our travel costs and to give donations to the local communities and community organizations that are fighting for political, economic, and human rights.
