“On Strike!”

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

The French sure know how to strike.  They don’t even wait for their president to put in reforms.  They strike when he’s still talking about reforms.  Damn straight Sarkozy:

Strikers shut down train traffic across France at the start of new protests against President Nicolas Sarkozy’s attempts to check the power of French unions and make the country more competitive.

The open-ended rail strike started Tuesday night, and Paris transit workers were joining the walkout Wednesday. University students and other workers were also putting pressure on Sarkozy’s conservative government with their own strikes.

The question is who will give way first: Sarkozy, whose credentials as a reformer are on the line? Or trade unions protesting his plans to eliminate special rules that allow train drivers and certain other public service workers to retire early?
